All seventh and eighth-grade students enrolled in the junior high schools will be required to pass a minimum of five (5) credits a year in the required basic curriculum. Eighth grade students may be required to pass four (4) credits a year if they have achieved reading proficiency.

In the seventh grade, one (1) credit must be earned in the following areas:

  • Math
  • Social Studies
  • Physical Education
  • Science
  • ELA

In the eighth grade, one (1) credit must be earned in each of the following areas:

  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • ELA

One-half (1/2) credit will be earned for each semester’s work successfully completed in each area.

A maximum of two (2) credits per year can be earned through successful completion of the offered electives.

Students who do not earn the credits required to advance to the next grade level, 8th grade or 9th grade, have the option to recover the credit through summer school or an online credit recovery course taken in lieu of an elective.
