 P.R.I.D.E. Program

All students at HJHS are required by the Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board to participate in the PRIDE program. This program helps students be prepared for classes each hour. By being prepared for class and on time, all students will benefit from more efficient use of the teacher's and their time.
Students must accomplish the following in order to be successful and avoid staying for an 8th hour responsibility period. First, they must be on time for class or have an excused tardy pass. Second, they must have all necessary supplies and books for the class. Third, students must have their homework completed. Fourth, the students must enter their homework assignment in their Google PRIDE assignment calendar.

Responsibility checks will be made by each teacher at the beginning of each class period to see that all students are ready to learn. If a student has not carried out their responsibilities appropriately, the teacher will indicate why the student is receiving 8th hour for that class period on their PRIDE page.  It is the student's responsibility to contact the parent regarding their 8th hour.  The student will stay for 8th hour and be released from school at 3:30 p.m. Regular dismissal is at 3:00 p.m.  On early-out Wednesdays, students will stay for 8th hour and be released from school at 2:30 pm.
A special PRIDE bus will run at approximately 3:45 p.m. for those students who stay for 8th hour. This PRIDE bus is for students who live within Highland Junior High School boundaries and normally ride a school bus to and from school.  Those students who are on open enrollment will need to make other arrangements with parents for pick up.  Students who ride the 8th hour bus should arrive home at approximately 4:15 p.m.  When a student is assigned 8th hour, it is the student's responsibility to call a parent or guardian to notify them that they need to stay after school to serve their 8th hour.  We will call any parent who would like to be notified that their student is staying for 8th hour. Teachers will send home a form for a parent to fill out for this service.
