Dr. Sean Jonaitis, Principal

I am the proud Principal of Highland Junior High School. With nearly two decades of experience in education, my focus is on building connections between students, families, and staff. The feeling of family is what I love the most about Highland Junior High. I truly believe students are positively impacted when the entire community works together. I attended Michigan State University for my undergraduate degree and Arizona State University for my graduate degrees in administration. I love spending time with my family and traveling.

Highland Junior High School is a special place. With a tradition of excellence and a fierce commitment to student success, HJHS excels in every way. Students here enjoy a wide variety of opportunities! We offer honors and gifted academic classes, our Gifted, Talented & Creative (GTC) program, and electives designed for multiple interests. For students with special needs, we have Co-taught, Resource, ASCILLS, SPICE 1, and SPICE 2 programs, depending on the student's IEP. If a student is new to learning English, we have a fabulous English Language Learner (ELL) program. Our highly acclaimed performing arts program includes band, choir, and orchestra. Our mission guides us - “Pursuing Personal Growth… Everyone, Everyday” - and we’re privileged to spend each day working with our outstanding students.

Our vision is to provide differentiated learning opportunities for all students: including, but not limited to Special Education, English Language Learners, Gifted, and Accelerated learners.

The feeling of family is what I enjoy most about Highland Junior High. Come join us!
