Matt Flora, Assistant Principal & Athletic Director

I am honored to serve the Gilbert Public Schools community and the Hurricane family as the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Highland Junior High School. With nearly two decades of teaching experience, I began my career at Desert Ridge Junior High and Desert Ridge High School. I have also had the privilege of contributing to the educational programs at Higley High School and Campo Verde High School.

My path into educational leadership began as an Assistant Principal in the Casa Grande Elementary School District. I am truly grateful to return to Gilbert Public Schools, where I can actively contribute to our dynamic and thriving community. I earned my bachelor's degree in Choral Music Education from Northern Arizona University, having initially begun my academic journey at The Ohio State University. Subsequently, I obtained a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University, further enhancing my commitment to fostering educational excellence.

Coming from a family of educators, I am deeply passionate about creating a positive learning environment and advocate strongly for the transformative power of education. My wife, Elizabeth, and I are proud residents of the Gilbert/Mesa area, and we eagerly anticipate our two young children joining Gilbert Public Schools. Outside of my professional commitments, I cherish spending quality time with family and friends, and I enthusiastically support my favorite teams: The Ohio State University Buckeyes, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cincinnati Reds.

I was drawn to Highland Junior High School due to its esteemed tradition of excellence, strong sense of community, and unwavering commitment to the principle of “Everyone, Every Day!”
